The Almost Thief- A Swords & Wizardry Mini-Dungeon

Finally got around to running this for one of my groups. (MINOR SPOILERS below)

Note that I adapted this to suit an AD&D 1st Ed group, but it ran quite smoothly. OSR stuff is easily adapted across systems.

All in all I like how the Dazegoneby line reads, and have purchased several, but due to world events haven't been able to play them until now.

This is a fun dungeon, easily inserted into a campaign. The layout is simple and the threat can be real. It doesn't seem like it at first glance and my players went at it intelligently, freeing the zombies in the crypts one-by-one for fear that something might release them all at once and pose a real problem. Even so, their resources dwindled and the final encounter nearly ended them, so just the right level of challenge to keep them busy for an afternoon.

The group was a mix of veterans and one brand new player who wants to come back for more!

Technically speaking the presentation and game objectives are clear. There are some typos and such, but nothing that ruins the overall package. I recommend it. Good stuff.

Against the Goblins- A Swords & Wizardry Adventure

I've now bought a bunch of the 'Dazegoneby' line and am prepping this one specifically for my table.

Full disclosure - I Haven't played any of them yet in a practical sense, so these are my observations based on reading through them.

As I was browsing, looking for some good options for scenarios to drop into my game, and came across the Dazegoneby line. I admit that the low price tag was also a lure... but I was very pleased - they read well and are nicely put together. Clean presentation and easy to prep scenarios.

They use the Swords and Wizardry setup, but are easily converted to any of the other old school systems, official or OGL.

I like that the setups are simple, easily inserted into existing scenarios, and fairly rich in their offerings. The antagonists are well thought out with clear motivations of their own, which lends a level of nuance to any game. (I am particularly eager to run my group through the 'Night of the Stirges' module)

I'm most certainly interested to see more offerings from Creation's Edge Dazegonby line, especially more full-length adventure modules. I would also like to see their books given the print-on-demand treatment for hardcopies.

Having bought up most of their low level adventures, I'll come back for the high level ones once my crew gets there in-game.

My two coppers.

This one's a great one. I'm a fan of the Dungeons of Dazegoneby Line overall, and Sorrowblight Fields stands out.

Check out my video 'Reviewcap' of this module where I recap the play through and discuss it. Note the module was inserted as part of an ongoing campaign, so there are other events around it.

Fantastic module. Ran my guys through it and they loved every minute of it. Of the N-series this has to be my favourite.

Definitely recommended for players who want a little more 'role' in their 'playing.'

Good build up and mystery that leads to the inevitable Dungeon Crawl.

Assault on Raven's Ruin (Basic)

I ordered the Print on Demand hard copy and was mostly pleased. The quality is decent and the adventure itself is a fun starter mission for new groups, or novice players.

My one gripe with the PoD version is that the map has been reduced in size, and merely added to the booklet as additional pages, rather than a full-size map for play.... I would think with the print on demand setup it wouldn't be difficult to produce the proper sized map with the module.

Awesome classic. Hommlet is a brilliant set up for a campaign headquarters with stories and characters. Just the setting alone is worth it.

Worthy purchase of classic material.

Very fun starter adventure. The group had a howl running through it. I think maybe a little rough for the 0 level starting characters included, as my players had some trouble with it even using 1st level characters of their own.

But the presentation is good, and our group had a fun time running around, freezing and virtually weaponless.

Definitely a good starter module for new players, or experienced players beginning a new campaign.

Poorly written adventure from the grand old days. Ran my group through it for a lark, but there were definitely things that needed to be re-tooled in order to make some actual sense.

Seems like it was written by a 13 year old, with no attention to consistency or logic.
