Can’t put it down, can you? You know what’s in here. You’ve seen them. The twisted ones, the arrogant ones, the lost ones. Oh, you’d like to walk away and life be all cake and daisies, but you know you’re going here instead. You’ll try to convince yourself it’s because you’re greedy for the loot, or can’t resist a fight, but we all know the truth. So ready your sword, clean your pistol, and watch out for that dog – he might be small but he’s unreasonably vicious.

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay takes you back to the Old World. Get the gang together, create your (anti)heroes, and set off to make your way through the vile corruption, scheming plotters and terrifying creatures intent on destruction.

The Fourth Edition Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Rulebook contains everything you need for grim and perilous roleplaying adventures in the Old World.

Purchased PDF and physical copy.
The book is gorgeous, but the art, even if depict the WarHammer world, seems bland and generic. The book if choked full of drawings... they just are not inspiring.
Run of the mill fantasy stuff. That is a pity.
Character generation: Elf, again, got a lot of stats bonuses. The books promises that all races are equalised by other factors: I.e. famous Fate points and resolution.
That feels cheap.
I'm not a fan in smashing characters to make use their fate points. I never did it with 1st edition, and I'll not do it now.
The XP given by accepting dice fate, during creation, are a brilliant idea, but seems not really balanced. In the end, you can end up with some crap slave, instead of a noble, for what, a +5%?
Again, not worth it.
Careers: I like all careers have 4 levels, but the way they are presented, with those symbols, just make nonsense. Other than that, there is something lacking about description and drawings that is not very evocative....See more

I really appreciate this review. Its the only one that actually talks about the game itself.

The symbols make perfect sense to me, black crosses can be upgraded first level, bronze hammers second level, silver skull third level and gold shield 4th level

Any ETA on when the physical copies will hit game stores US? I am thinking mid November?

Not yet. December is far more likely though given that shipments to pre-order customers haven't completed yet.

Just got email from Cubicle 7. My order is screwed up (on their end) and if I'm lucky, I will get my book sent out by Nov. 2. This really is too much. :(

Not that it matters, but my favorite version Warhammer so far is this one 4th. I enjoy the advantage system along with doubles count as critical hits. Also like the character advancement system. Look forward to getting physical copies. Have them preordered from local store. Know the owner. You also have allot of source material from 2nd that cane be converted.

Is there any chance of a printer-friendly character sheet? The heavy border and off-white background looks good on screen, but is a bit much to print out.

Character sheets, pregens, and a free adventure, will be showing up on the Cubicle 7 site shortly after the physical copies of the limited edition of the core rules ship

Doesn't really answer the question about whether printer-friendly character sheets will be included, but thanks, I guess.

Sorry you chose to buy this game instead of saving up for some common sense, or in fact the ability to just google for your answer.

I mean you didn't *really* answer. He's asking for printer-friendly - the one coming may not be printer-friendly. Most likely it's the same as the one in the book (which I do not own - just checking out the game to see if it's something I'd be into).

Great map at the start of the book - but there's no way to see how far apart stuff is? How much is a cm/inch whatever?

Not all maps are to scale
Customer avatar
stefan J October 20, 2018 11:58 am UTC
Yes, well I know that (?), but I still need to know, preferably without having to use old version maps or from other games. There are pretty much information on travelling speeds but no way to know how far apart towns and such are.

No Scale on maps? I'm speechless, really, as one's capacity to measure distances overland (or overwater) is one of the main purposes of maps. Its one of its essential elements...

It's fantasy. Just make some numbers up... or use on older map.
But yes, would be nice to have a new edition, covering all aspects.

IIRC the in-game current year is 2511 IC and Emperor Karl-Franz I has been on the throne for almost a decade. The map is pretty much the same. It might be the art style throwing you off, IDK

The core books ship (well, the copies going out from the UK warehouse anyway) at the end of this week / beginning of next (regular version only ... collector's edition wont ship for around 2 more weeks)

I do wonder if the physical copy of the Starter Set will slip to December or not, and I also wonder if Rough Nights & Hard Days will slip from November to December or even January.

To me, it's nearer 1e than 2e. Others may disagree.

It definitely draws it's inspiration mainly from 1st edition. How this compares to 2nd edition is that there are a few more stipulations in character generation (Class distinctions are reintroduced for example), while there is a bit more setting detail in the corebook. There are numerous little differences, but the overall feel of the game is pretty much what it has always been. With a mooted deluxe version of the classic Enemy Within campaign to be released in the forseeable future, the creators are very much aiming to celebrate the spirit of the game.

Sick with 1st or 2nd ed. This version is not worthy of your money.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
