Rats in the Walls

ADD TO WISHLIST >
Selected Option:

Rats in the Walls is a roleplaying game of cosmic horror, inspired by the writings of H.P Lovecraft (but it doesn't use HPL's Mythos).

The game system is inspired by classics like Advanced Fighting Fantasy, Traveller and more recent titles like Maze Rats or Into the Odd. It uses 2D6 and only the players roll the dice so the GM can focus on the players' choices.

The system is aimed at long-term play but works very well with one-shots as well.

The default setting are the roaring 20's but an appendix allows you to create medieval characters.

So grab a character sheet, 2D6, pick a profession and a reputation and go fight the Old Ones or die screaming.

This is the revised, fully illustrated edition.

Really loving the elegance of this game so far. One thing I found I think might be mistake though:

In the combat section under "Taking Action" it says:

The player makes his roll:
7-: the GM can use two consequences against him.
8-9: but suffers a consequence.
10+: the PC succeeds and picks a consequence for his target(s).

Should this really read:

The player makes his roll:
7-: the GM can use two consequences against him.
8-9: the PC succeeds but suffers a consequence.
10+: the PC succeeds and picks a consequence for his target(s).

Hi Alexandre,

I really like this game, but have come across a bunch of other typos and spelling errors. Because I'd like to see this the best it can be, I actually went through the process of proofreading and marking up a .docx version of the document with suggested changes.

Is there anywhere I can submit the suggested corrections? There are kind of a lot to paste them all into the discussion here. And I'm not sure how to private message someone in rpgnow.

Thanks.

Have you made any corrections? I'd like to buy a print copy, but I'd prefer to wait until the files have been updated first.

Also, what are the differences between this edition and the original one, other than the art?

Hi Alexandre,

I've about related with the system combat and I have some doubts.
According to the book, the player makes his roll:
7-: the GM can use two consequences against him.
8-9: PC succeeds but suffers a consequence.
10+: the PC succeeds and picks a consequence for his target(s).

Does this mean that the player does the damage with the gun and then she/he select the consecuence, or does it mean that the damage is another consequence to choose?

Additionally, I see on the sample combat that Howard chooses two consequences after rolling 12 as result. Why he can choose a second consequence?

Hello Alfredo, sorry for the late answer.

1. Doing damage with the gun is 1 consequence to choose.
2. That's not written in the rules but a 12+ let's you choose two consequences.

Have fun !

I'm waiting for my POD version to arrive. Once I get it (I don't expect any problems) the POD will go live. So expect it in about 7 to 10 days!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
